Hello Lovelies! Sorry I didn’t post Monday, I was completely confused with my days, but I’m fixed now lol. Anyways I know there has been A LOT of things going on with Tarte, the Shape Tape foundation and how they’ve been handling the blacklash. I did buy this foundation the moment it went up for purchase. I don’t agree with how Tarte has been handling the situation but this isn’t a post for the politics of the situation, this is merely a review and my opinion of the foundation.
I bought the lightest shade with a pink undertone in the matte finish (Fair Neutral). The presentation itself(bottle) is really nice, frosted glass bottle resembling the Shape Tape concealer. Tarte Shape Tape Claim– Tarte Shape Tape matte Foundation: “Vegan & oil-free full coverage foundation with a creamy texture and modern matte finish to compliment our cult-favorite concealer… Provides the same full coverage as its concealing predecessor. It smooths over pores & imperfections with rich, airbrushed full coverage that dries to a flawless matte finish using a unique, concealer-inspired wand. The formula absorbs oil & shine while leaving the skin creaseless, hydrated, free of flakiness or cakiness & helping to improve skin health with every application.”
I gave this foundation numerous chances to prove it was as good as the concealer(because I love the concealer), however it failed miserably. It seemed as though every time I applied it and I applied it using different methods (i.e. stiff kabuki, stippling brush and a B.B., and it did not and I repeat did not live up to the claims made by Tarte. It’s not full coverage (unless you face is blemish free, poreless and texture free) it caked up around my nose and it emphasized my pores. I hadn’t changed anything when it comes to my skincare routine or my primer.
When I first tried it I think I was so excited that I convinced myself that it was amazing… as the first day continued I noticed that the foundation wasn’t looking so ‘amazing’ on my skin. It was separating on my chin and center of my forehead and was emphasizing my pores big time and my nose was really cakey, again nothing had changed in skincare or primer department. So the next few times I tried different combinations of primers and primer sprays and setting sprays, I also tried setting and not setting the foundation with powder and nothing worked.
This last time that I wore the FINAL chance was horrendous in my opinion. Since this foundation dries down so quick you have to work in sections and there can be no hesitation. I applied my primer and then Smashbox Primer Water to help blend(helps slightly) however I was quick to blend and blend and blend and I was still left with patchiness, cakiness, accentuated pores and texture and an oily T-Zone. The center of my forehead-between my eyebrows- was already starting to separate after applying, same goes for my chin. My nose looked worse than it did before I applied the foundation. I can’t tell y’all how embarrassed I was to walk out of the house and go to town with this foundation on my face with the way it look.
*side note sorry about the pictures, it was such a cloudy and foggy day it was hard to get any kind of lighting even inside, I worked with what I had.*
So do I think the Shape Tape Foundation was worth the hype? NO! Is it worth $39? NO! Would I repurchase it? No. Would I recommend it? No.
Well lovelies I hope you enjoyed this review and hopefully found it helpful in some way. Until Next Time💋
