Do’s & Don’ts of Mixing Vitamin C

Hello Lovelies and Happy Easter🐣🐰! I hope all of you are happy, healthy and fabulous… So have you ever been looking at your vanity, or bathroom counter or skincare shelf, or even the skincare aisle at the store, and thought, “Can I use this and this together?” I know I have on more than 2 occasions, so I decided I wanted to do a post or posts [I need feedback] on the Do’s and Don’ts of mixing certain skincare ingredients. Let’s get started…
Today I wanted to talk about the Do’s and Don’ts of mixing Vitamin C. Also known as Ascorbic Acid, it is one of the strongest antioxidants for our skin. It offers exfoliation, collagen production, reduces inflammation and so much more. Also when using this ingredient be sure to keep it in a cool place away from direct sunlight, because it will oxidize and lose its potency. Another thing to remember is that if you do decide to apply Vitamin C in the AM, WEAR SPF, you should be wearing it in the daytime anyways, but be sure you are when you are using Vitamin C, that’s why its recommended to use in your PM regimen… lets start out with a list of the Do’s.
  • Vitamin E
    • -Vitamin E is fat soluble and Vitamin C is water soluble so when combined it enhances your skins ability to absorb all the wonderful moisture. Also both are rich antioxidants for the skin.
  • Arbutin
    • -This helps prevent formation of melanin, where as Vitamin C helps fade pigmentation from melanin, so when combined you are preventing and treating at the same time.
  • Peptides
    • -These help create collagen, so when mixed with Vitamin C it’s adding to the production, also acts as a skin barrier from free radicals.
  • Essence, serums or moisturizers
    • -Use one rich in hydration to get the most benefits.
    • -All 3 offer exfoliation and even though exfoliation is good too much is a bad thing. It can cause our skin to become irritated, sensitive, and it can also breakdown our skins natural barrier.
  • Niacinamide
    • -This can cause skin irritation if mixed with Vitamin C and it can also cause it to be less effective due to oxidation.
  • Benzoyl Peroxide
    • -Causes oxidation, loss of effectiveness and skin irritation.
  • Collagen
    • -It sounds contradicting since Vitamin C actually helps with the production of collagen, however when the 2 are combined in skincare the collagen clots and can’t penetrate the skin, causing it to be pretty much useless.
