Weight Loss Surgery & 1 month Update

Hello lovelies, hope all is well… in my return post, I mentioned that I had recently had surgery and was going to document my progress, and this post is the starting point. I wanted to give you guys some information about how I came to this decision, after this post I won’t put it in every post about surgery, if that makes sense?… let’s go…

So I had Weight Loss Surgery(WLS) to be more specific I had the Gastric Sleeve(GS). The Gastric Sleeve, is when a tube is placed in your stomach, then following the tube the stomach is stitched up, creating a “sleeve” the tube is removed after surgery, it’s used as a guide. That’s the “dummies version” if you want to know more you can search or I’ll be happy to answer any questions.

The “beginning”:

I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life, I was teased so much for my weight and it really took a toll on my self esteem, even though I was active I was still big; as I got older of course I tried diets, diet pills and the most unhealthy way possible eating disorders(I’m not proud of). When I was about 21 I had hit my heaviest at 256lbs, culinary school really packed on the fat. I started working out and eating better, for a while I THOUGHT I was doing well only to realize I had an unhealthy combo of over exertion in the gym and work along with not eating (much). I was working in a hot kitchen, going to the gym 7 days a week, twice a day for at least 4 hours, I didn’t know it at the time but I was going to crash… and I did. Anyways I got better and focused on being healthy instead of skinny. I would loose a little bit, not what I wanted. I wanted long term, even after controlled eating watching carbs and proteins and a good heart pumping workout I was still stuck, my average weight was 250-2250lbs and I was going insane. That’s where my general doctor comes in…

Doctors & Research:

I met with my doctor (Dr.LD) and we talked about my weight and the health risks, I asked her about WLS and she agreed that I’d be a good candidate for it. I had a general idea of what surgery I wanted but I still needed to do research and that’s just what I did. First I started with researching GS and the pros & cons along with short and long term complications and once I felt prepared I searched for a surgeon and I found one who had good reviews across the board. My first initial visit with him I was nervous but very prepared, we talked and then I went over stuff I needed to do to get insurance to approve, psych evaluation, pulmonary test, and meet with a nutritionist and I was lucky for insurance to cover me. I had my date set… June 21st at 11am.

Surgery Day:

Surgery day wasn’t too terrible, my nerves were even though I’ve had a few surgeries. When the time came it went quick. I remember saying goodbye to my mom and boyfriend and going into the OR then I was waking up, that wasn’t fun. I was super nauseated when I started to come to and I hurt. They did what they could to make me comfortable. I fell in and out of sleep then I woke up in my room, both mom and boyfriend there. I was still feeling pain but they wanted me to walk so I did. I wound up staying overnight due to pain, which was OK by me, it was a long night but my sweetheart was by my side all night. The next day I got up and walked then it was time to go.

Now before I do 1 month after I want to talk a little about WLS. This was and is not a quick fix, it’s a lifestyle change and major commitment. WLS takes a toll on your body and mental state, it’s been hard on mine for sure. Food was my emotional support and comfort and I had to find other coping mechanisms. When you can’t eat what you want it gets rough. I tried a lot of things and this surgery was my last resort.

Gastric Sleeve “explanation”

1 Month:

A month after GS I am down 20lbs, I haven’t really noticed a change, but people around me seem to so that makes me feel good. Sadly I didn’t take my pre-measurements before surgery🙄 but I kinda knew what they were, so maybe I’ll take them around my 2 month update post. I’m still not comfortable showing my body so I wont be putting up before and after pictures for my first month, maybe month 2 I will.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer them if you’d like.

Until next time…
